There seems to be a "day" for everything these days, and why not?! Especially when it gives us an excuse to celebrate the really good stuff!
International Cava Day on July 12th for instance is an excellent idea, encouraging us to pop the cork on a bottle of fizz, and on a Tuesday as well! The scandal!
This year we are teaming up with Barcelona's favourite Bodega Vilarnau, a stone's throw from the bustling city and yet set within a stunning and tranquil landscape, the “Can Petit i les Planes de Vilarnau”, owned by the Vilarnau family, whose feet have trod this soil since the 12th century.
Producing small-scale artisan Cava his small winery shares its innovative, creative and dynamic nature with Spain’s most avant-garde city. To demonstrate the connection with the city, Bodega Vilarnau has designed a limited edition bottle sleeve, celebrating the art of "Trencadis", seen throughout the city and especially represented by Barcelona's own Gaudi.
"Trencadís" is a kind of mosaic that was used in the modernist art movement in Catalonia, created from tiny fragments of broken ceramic tiles, roof tiles or crockery. The technique is also known as “pique assiette”, in French. The catalan architects Antoni GaudÍ and Josep MarÍa Pujol used “trencadÍs” in many of their designs, the most famous probably being “Parc Güell in Barcelona.
